An Arnold man died from injuries he suffered Saturday evening (Aug. 31) after his motorcycle was struck by a cargo van on Old Hwy. 21 in the Meramec Heights area west of Arnold.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Garrett Krieg, 24, of Cedar Hill was driving a 2013 Ford E150 van north on Old Hwy. 21 north of Enchanted Forest Drive at 9:50 p.m. when, in an attempt to turn left into a private parking lot, he drove into the path of a southbound 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle ridden by Stanley Fluegel, 59, of Arnold, and the motorcycle hit the van.

Fluegel sustained serious injuries and was taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.

He died at the hospital, the report said.

The report made no mention of an injury to Krieg.

Fluegel was wearing a safety helmet and Krieg his seat belt, the report said. The motorcycle had extensive damage while the Ford van had moderate damage.
