Approximately 300 people turned up for the 29th annual De Soto Home Show on April 12 at De Soto High School, where more than 50 vendors staffed booths to discuss their wares and services.
“We were very pleased with the variety and number of participating booths we had for this year’s Home Show,” said Sarah Greenlee, coordinator for the De Soto Chamber of Commerce, which sponsored the event, along with Leader Publications.
Vendors provided a range of products and services, including landscaping, siding, windows, doors, gutters, bath remodels, lenders, cleaning and crafts. The event included a silent auction, prizes and kids corner with an indoor bounce house and photos with the Easter bunny.
She said attendance was lower than in past years.
“Unfortunately, the event did not draw the attendance we had expected, but we truly appreciated the folks who did stop by and the vendors,” Greenlee said. “We’ve already started planning and brainstorming ways to make the next Home Show more appealing, so stay tuned.”
She said the home show included lots of prizes and giveaways, which were a hit.
“People really enjoyed the free giveaways that some of the vendors had,” Greenlee said.
She said the silent auction brought in close to $2,000, which the chamber will use to fund future community events.
“That’s a good amount,” Greenlee said. “We were pleased with it.”
The chamber’s next event will be its annual golf tournament, which will be held at Terre Du Lac Golf Course on Friday, May 2. To sign up or to be a hole sponsor, email the chamber at Desotomo_chamber@yahoo.com.
Greenlee said the chamber’s golf tournament is always a fun, relaxing event that gets people out of the office and outdoors.
She said the chamber will soon begin fundraising for the annual fireworks display. The chamber took over as event organizers last year.
Greenlee said the chamber will collect donations for the fireworks display on Main Street on May 17 and for the fireworks show and other community events on May 31.
