Rosemary Graham’s photo was selected at random from among 236 entries in the annual Leader Family Holiday Album contest, winning her the $200 grand prize.

Graham, 77, of Hillsboro quickly pondered how to best use the prize money, but assured she would “put it to good use.”

For the contest, she submitted two photos of her oldest child, Donna White. One photo was of White, then 16, decorating the Christmas tree in 1980.

“(She is) always there to lend a helping hand,” Graham said.

The other photo, the one randomly drawn as the winner, was taken in 2018. Graham said it was a photo of White helping her bake Christmas cookies when her husband, George, was pretty sick.

Graham said she moved in with her daughter after her husband died in 2021. They had been married for 57 years. She said he wasn’t perfect but he “was one in a million.”

She enjoys sitting down and writing stories about their life together and their family, which includes one daughter, two sons, Don and Richard, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Leader invited Jefferson County, Eureka and Wildwood-area readers to enter the newspaper’s annual Family Holiday Album photo contest. Readers were asked to send photos of themselves and their family members and friends celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or any other winter holiday.
