Those of German descent or those who would like a taste of German culture will want to check out the German Cultural Society’s Wurstmarkt on Sunday.
The event is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. at the organization’s Donau Park facility, 5020 West Four Ridge Road, in House Springs. Admission is free.
Food will be served from noon to 3 p.m. or until it runs out.
“We invite everyone, including the general public, to come to our first outdoor event of the season,” said Joe Wendl, a member of the society’s executive board. “The event is all focused around food. We’ll have our typical great beers, dinner and music. We specialize in our wurst dinners.”
The Deutschmeister Brass Band and the society’s German dance groups will perform.
“The Deutschmeister Brass Band will play from noon to 5 p.m.,” Wendl said. “When the band takes breaks, the dance groups will perform.”
Dinners include a weisswurst (white sausage) and a German-style paprika bratwurst (Hungarian sausage), sauerkraut, bread, potato salad and green beans and a choice of apple or cherry strudel. Drinks and pretzels will also be sold.
“We bring in people from a wide area,” Wendl said. “They come from St. Louis, around Jefferson County, and even some from Illinois come to our events at Donau Park.”
He said wet weather normally is not a problem for events at Donau Park.
“The event goes off rain or shine under our large pavilion,” Wendl said.
