An afternoon of Christian music is coming to the Larry G. Crites Memorial Park in Festus this weekend.

The Worship Concert, organized by the Rushing family of Festus, is making its debut from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and will feature performers Josiah Queen, Set Apart, Good Community and Missionary X on the big stage at Crites Park along Old Hwy. A.

“It’s a first-time concert,” Kim Rushing said. “We are trying to promote community togetherness. It’s a family-friendly event.”

Her husband, Adam, said the concert is not for any particular Christian denomination.

“Our vision is to gather people from our community to attend a free worship concert, no matter if you go to church or not, no matter what denomination you are,” he said.

Kim said each act will play for 40 to 45 minutes,

“The order of appearance has not yet been set,” she said.

The Rushings said Queen, from Tampa, Fla., has more than 55,000 followers.

“He is a more modern performer,” Rushing said.

She described Set Apart and Good News Community, both from the Festus area, “as more worship music.”

Kim said Missionary X from Hillsboro, “is more Christian rock music.”

Kona Ice will sell shaved ice at the event.

Baptisms will be offered at the event, Kim said.

“Good News Community Church will bring its baptism trough,” she said. “Anyone can just show up for it.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs
