Windsor High students will perform the musical comedy “Little Shop of Horrors” next week.
All the performances will be held in the school’s Performing Arts Auditorium, with show times set for 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 22-24. In addition, a sensory-friendly performance is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24.
Admission is $7 for the evening performances, but it’s free to attend the sensory-friendly matinee.
Deanna Michel said she and co-director Liska Hromnack chose the musical because it suits the school’s talented performers.
“We thought we had the perfect cast for the musical and thought it would be a fun show,” Michel said.
“It’s about a flower shop on skid row. The business is failing. Then, Seymour introduces a new breed of plant called ‘Audrey II.’ He names it after his crush. The plant turns out to be an alien that feeds on human blood.
“It a kind of a dark comedy.”
Younger children may not grasp the plot, Michel added.
“I would say, for understanding purposes, they should be (at least) 10 to 12,” she said.
Michel said the matinee performance is more appropriate for children and those with sensory issues.
She said those who attend should be impressed with the Audrey II prop that’s being created for the show.
“I think the biggest thing is our plant prop we’ve been building,” she said. “I think it’s a show-stopper.”
Seniors Wyatt Graham as Seymour and Katie Boyster as Audrey lead the cast.
Both said they are enjoying rehearsals and believe their schoolmates will be amused by their performances in “Little Shop of Horrors.”
“It’s a really funny show,” Boyster said. “I think my friends will enjoy it.”
“It’s been fun watching the plant get made and evolve, seeing it built,” Graham said.
Senior Lily Harrison, a member of the ensemble, said she believes people will enjoy the show’s music and choreography.
“I love the music and the dancing we do,” she said. “It’s really fun to perform.”
Other members of the main cast include juniors Eli Sevener, Jimmy Barnett, Blane Johnson, Beverly Miloscia and Sarah Winters; and sophomores Brayden London and Audrey Clouse.
The rest of the ensemble includes senior Caleb Schwenk; juniors Desmond Ericson and Savanna Pena; sophomores Gianna Portell, Gabby Kraatz, Caitlyn Sullivan and Rebecca Rabbitt; and freshman Brianna Peppers.
