The Windsor High Musical Theatre Department will perform “Disney’s the Little Mermaid” next week.
Showtimes for the musical will be at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 27-March 1, and at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 2, all at the Windsor High School Performing Arts Auditorium, 949 Windsor Harbor Road, in Imperial. In addition, a sensory-friendly version of the show will be held at 3 p.m. March 1.
Tickets will cost $5 each.
Members of the theater department said it’s been a joy working on the show, adding that they believe audiences will enjoy it.
“The high school has never done ‘The Little Mermaid’ before,” said co-director Deanna Michel. “We chose ‘The Little Mermaid’ because we wanted a more kid-friendly show, and we thought it would be a lot of fun to do the costumes.”
Co-director Liska Hromnak said the show has a talented cast.
“They’re great singers and dancers,” she said. “I’m sure everyone knows the story of ‘The Little Mermaid.’ (Attendees) are going to have a lot of fun.
“I’m very excited, and I can tell the kids are very excited because they’re working so hard.”
She said the crowds should be familiar with the music.
“There’s ‘Part of Your World,’ ‘Under the Sea’ and ‘Kiss the Girl,’” Hromnak said. “Those are the most popular.”
Audrey Clouse, a junior from Imperial who plays Ariel, the title character, said she has had a good time during rehearsal.
“I’ve really enjoyed the cast,” she said. “I’ve enjoyed the dancing. I think this show is really fun. I would consider it humorous and endearing.”
Senior Jimmy Barnett, also from Imperial, who plays Prince Eric, the male lead, said he thinks the show is a crowd-pleaser.
“I think they’re going to enjoy the cast a lot,” Barnett said.
In addition to Clouse and Barnett, the featured cast includes seniors Eli Sevener, Beverly Miloscia, Desmond Ericson and Blane Johnson; juniors Rebecca Rabbitt, Cat Sullivan, Gianna Portell and Brayden London; and sophomores Brianna Peppers and Victor Pagan-Cruz.
The Mersisters include senior Izzy Martin, junior Kenzie Kerley, sophomore Sophia Plesons, and freshmen Cora Lamb, Lizzie Boyster and Hailey Marshall.
Those in the ensemble include seniors Kendra Butler, Margie Gatlin, Shyla Pulliam and Rebecca Schimpf; junior Addyson Burns; sophomore Lydia Coe; and freshmen Hunter Blackman and Izzy Gabriel.
Tickets go on sale Friday and may be purchased at the door or online at cur8.com/14941/project/128390.
