Windsor High School will celebrate homecoming with a variety of festivities all next week, culminating with the homecoming football game at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, when the Owls host the De Soto High School Dragons.

The fee to attend the football game is $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens.

“Before the game, there will be an alumni area open from 5-6:15 p.m.,” said Jamie Kovach, a math teacher and one of the school’s Student Council advisers “It’s near the older tennis courts on the parking lot (near the lower entrance to the football field). It’s just a chance for alumni to visit with each other. We’ll have snacks for them.”

The homecoming dance will be held the next day, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. The dance is slated to be held outside at the high school athletic stadium, something that started during the COVID epidemic. If storms erupt, the dance will move inside to the high school gym.

“We do still have it on the football field,” Kovach said. “It started during COVID and the students enjoyed it.”

The homecoming court include seniors Lyla Bieser, Tommy Broderick, Audrey Clouse, Peyton DeClue, Gracie Eskridge, Caleb Haegele, Mackenzie Kerley, Colton Mohart, Jordan Rosvall and Logan Wilson; juniors Kiley Johnson and Jacob Helton; sophomores Emalee Finney and Gus Haegele; and freshmen Kiegan Bersing and Wyatt Reno.

Homecoming court recognition and the coronation ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26, immediately before the start of the football game, on the track in front of the football field.

The annual homecoming parade starts at 1 p.m. Sept. 26 following its usual route starting at Windsor Elementary, 6003 Fifth St., in Kimmswick and proceeding on Hwy. K to Hwy. 61-67 to Windsor Harbor Road, ending at the football stadium.

“The grand marshal is Carol Schanz, a friend of the district,” Kovach said. “She helps out in a variety of different things.”

Windsor’s homecoming theme this year is “HocoChella.”

“The students picked the theme,” Kovach said. “The name combines homecoming and Coachella. Coachella is the music festival in California.”

Spanish teacher Kimberly Schmidt is the other adviser for the Student Council, which organizes homecoming events.

The following is a list of the Spirit Days events to be held Monday through Friday, Sept. 22-27, when students are encouraged to dress to match daily themes. They are:

■ Sept. 22 – Music March Monday; dress in band or other music artist T-shirts.

■ Sept. 23 – Sunnies and Slides; wear sunglasses and sandals.

■ Sept. 24 – Peace, Love and Kindness; dress in hippie attire.

■ Sept. 25 – Vibe Tribe; each class wears a designated color (seniors pink, juniors red, sophomores yellow, freshmen orange, staff chooses a class color to wear).

■ Friday – Nest Fest; all are encouraged to wear Windsor brown and gold colors.

“During lunch Thursday (Sept. 25), the Student Council will hold ‘Soak a Senior,’ a take on a dunking booth where underclassmen pay to dump a bucket of water on a senior classmate,” Kovach said.

An all-school assembly will be held during the school day Sept. 26, during which the school’s fall sports teams and activities will be recognized. The Windsor High School band, color guard and cheer and dance teams will perform, and members of the student body and staff will play games.
