More old friends than ever are expected to attend the 2024 Windsor High homecoming football game and related events this weekend.
The Owls will play Clayton in the football game at 7 p.m. Friday, with members of the classes of 1984, 1994, 2004 and 2014 especially organized to return to Imperial for the grid contest, said JoAnn Marty, the Windsor High Student Council advisor. The cost to attend the game is $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens.
“I think this is kind of exciting, because we have four graduating classes coming back for the game,” Marty said. “We’ll normally have one class or, maybe two classes come back. We’ve not had four classes come back (at the same time) since I’ve been here.”
Before the start of the game, the 2024 homecoming court will be announced, as will the parade grand marshal, Chris Schuler, class of 1984.
This year’s court includes freshmen Ella Montgomery and Jeff Black; sophomores Addison Davis and Grayson Hogan; and juniors Ella Shedron and Colton Mohart. Senior class court members are Cali Hammers and Gannon Deranja; Elise Mayfield and Cole Scott; Reese Ronzio and Kevin Holman; and Sara Wieberg and Keegan Murphy.
Due to lack of available space caused by major construction projects around the Windsor C-1 main campus in Imperial, there will be no bonfire this year, Marty said, but there will be plenty of other activities.
The homecoming parade starts at 1 p.m. Friday following its usual route starting at Windsor Elementary, 6003 Fifth St., Kimmswick. From there it proceeds along Hwy. K to south on Hwy. 61-67 to left onto Windsor Harbor Road, ending at the football stadium.
Marty said Schuler began “the popular Facebook page called Windsor Memories where he shares yearbook images since the high school opened. He has quite a following among alumni, teachers and families in the community.”
She said during the days leading up to homecoming weekend, the Student Council sponsors Spirit Days. This year’s Spirit Days theme is “Game On!” and each day of the week focuses on a different board or video game.
The homecoming dance is scheduled for 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, once again at the Owl football stadium. The school began holding the homecoming dance at the football field during the COVID-19 pandemic and people enjoyed it so much, it has remained there, Marty said.
“If there’s bad weather, we move into the (high school) gym,” she said.
