Jefferson College will perform the classic musical “Willy Wonka” over the next two weekends at the Fine Arts Theatre on the Hillsboro campus, 1000 Viking Drive.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 16-17 and June 23-24, and for 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18 and June 25.
Tickets cost $10 for adults or $5 for students, senior citizens and matinee shows.
The production is part of the college’s 60th anniversary celebration and 2023 Performing Arts and Cultural Enrichment (PACE) series.
Based on the book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl, the musical tells the story of candy manufacturer Willy Wonka, who creates a contest for a free tour of his candy factory and a lifetime supply of chocolate by hiding five golden tickets inside candy bar wrappers. Winners of the tour include five children, each accompanied by an adult.
The cast includes students, community members and staff members, including Keith Boyer as Willy Wonka, Grady Evans as Charlie Bucket, Mateo Bluemel as Grandpa Joe, Alex Perry as Augustus Gloop, Kailynne Martin as Veruca Salt, Tyler Potter as Mike Teavee and Summer Rowden as Violet Beauregarde.
Communication and theatre professor Rebecca Ellison will direct and choreograph the summer production. Music director Chris Auchly and stage manager Christopher Owen also serve as production leaders.
