St. Pius X High School began holding a senior class parade in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2023 St. Pius X High School senior class parade will be held Sunday afternoon, May 21, through the streets of Festus and Crystal City.

According to organizers, it will begin after a Mass concludes, with the parade starting between 3:15-3:30 p.m.

The parade is expected to start at Our Lady Catholic Church, 1505 St. Marys Lane, in Festus and proceed on Sunshine Drive and then east on Main Street, which becomes Bailey Road in Crystal City, right on Truman Boulevard (Hwy. 61-67) and left on St. Pius Drive.

St. Pius President Jim Lehn said the parade was first held in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down most indoor gatherings.

“We decided to have the parade and to have the graduation ceremony outside,” Lehn said.

He said the parade was so well received, the school has continued to hold it.

Lehn said he expects 60 to 80 vehicles in the parade.

“It usually lasts about 30 minutes,” he said. Lehn said the parade will be held “rain or shine.”
