The Spotlight Community Theatre’s annual Acting Troupe Showcase will feature two half-hour comedy plays, “Cut” and “The Actor Games.”
Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6. at Crystal City High School, 1100 Mississippi Ave. Tickets cost $10 and may be purchased at spotlightjeffco.ludus.com or at the door.
The cast for “Cut” consists of adult actors, and the cast for “The Actor Games” are teens, said Courtney Wisely, Spotlight’s founder and executive director.
She said the plays should appeal to a wide range of people, but it may be over the heads of children.
“Everybody age 13 and up should enjoy it,” she said.
“Cut” is a play about a group of actors rehearsing a play. Things get confused as actors begin to forget “who is playing whom and who is the real director,” Wisely said.
She said “ The Actor Games” is like “The Hunger Games,” but with a theatrical twist.
Brandon Dougherty of Crystal City is director and Angi Ruble of Festus is assistant director for “Cut.” Mikee Olegario and Natalie Smith, both of St. Louis, are co-directors for “The Actor Games.”
‘Cut’
Dougherty said “Cut” should have audiences roaring.
“Directing ‘Cut’ has been an absolute blast,” Dougherty said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better team to bring this short comedy to life. This show is a dive into comedy chaos, theater turned inside out.
“As characters and realities blur, the show hilariously captures the absurdity and thrill of rehearsals and performing on stage.”
Cast members include Erin Bingenheimer, Charlie Labitska, Zane Moore, Nick Sullivan, Kelsey Kort, Debbie Anderson, Kailynne Brooke and Angel Bailey, all of Festus; Jim Siebert and Mary McNamara, both of Crystal City; Je’Net Kreitner and Cole Wright, both of Hillsboro; Cassie Shropshire and Linda Potter, both of De Soto; Angela Moore of Dittmer; and Myksean Blair and Colleen Thomas, both of St. Louis.
