Spotlight Community Theatre to stage three comedy shows

The upcoming Spotlight Community Theatre Acting Troupe Showcase will feature comedy performances with three troupes taking the stage on different days. The shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. May 29-30 and 2 p.m. May 31 at Crystal City High School, 1100 Mississippi Ave.

Tickets cost $10 and may be purchased at spotlightjeffco.ludus.com or at the door.

The segments of the shows are “Law and Elvis,” performed by the adult troupe on Saturday and Sunday, “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon!” performed by the teen troupe on Friday and Saturday and “McQuadle: A Dragon’s Tale,” performed by the youth troupe on Friday and Sunday.

“It’s a night of comedy for the family,” said Courtney Wisely, Spotlight’s founder and executive director.

The entertainment kicks off with a 10-minute “pre-show” called “Theatre is a Superpower” before the other productions begin, Wisely said.

Performers in “Theatre is a Superpower” are: Jacob Kyle of Byrnes Mill; Ivy Lewis and Reagan Lewis of Dittmer; Addie Cage, Ayla Riney, Cohen Shaw, Ellie Parker, Emma Mae Ali, Hazel James and June Gans of Festus; and Alma Johnson of St. Louis. Wisely of Festus and Mikee Olegario of St. Louis are the production’s co-directors.

‘Law and Elvis’

Angi Ruble of Hillsboro is the director and Lynn Siebert is the assistant director of “Law and Elvis,” a production featuring adult actors.

According to Spotlight, the show is based on an actual 1977 incident in which three oddball characters tried to steal the body of Elvis Presley from a cemetery.

The cast includes Sean Maloney of Arnold; Brandon Daugherty, Cheryl Phillips and Jim Siebert of Crystal City; Cassie Shropshire and Linda Potter of De Soto; Austin Sitz, Bev Stuart, Halee Sitz, Leslie Hoff and Zane Moore of Festus; Justine Ruble of Fenton; Chad Godier of Herculaneum; Peggy Hughes of Hills-boro; and Mitch Linhardt of Oakville.

‘The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon!’

This segment has teenage actors and is described in materials supplied by the group as “Two narrators attempt to recreate all 209 of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm in a wild, fast-paced extravaganza.”

“We are incredibly proud of this cast and all the hard work they have put into this production,” said Zane Moore of Festus, the segment’s director.

Jenny Ditto of Oakville is the assistant director.

Cast members are: Megan Kraus of Arnold; Grayson Hogan and Mason Tucker of Barnhart; Talitha O’Shea of Crystal City; Tyler Potter of De Soto; Cora Meyer, Hayden Rector, Kinley Briggs, Lily Heenan, Mackenzie Fleweger, Noelle Donathan, Renee Shoemake and Stella Drury of Festus; Keylee Marshall of House Springs; Jocelynn Novak of House Springs/Imperial; Kaity Stairs and Riley Grace Maria Hunt of Imperial; Alice Ditto of Oakville; and Brennan Thomas and Deborah Johnson St. Louis.

‘McQuadle: A Dragon’s Tale’

This show has a large cast from the youth portion of Spotlight.

Linda Potter of De Soto is the director, and Sean Maloney of Arnold is the assistant director.
