The sixth annual Byrnes Mill Police Department car show is set from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13 at Valley Middle School, 4300 Gravois Road in House Springs.
Sgt. Cody Umfress said this year’s car show will be the biggest yet.
“We were actually turning people away last year because we had nowhere to put them,” he said.
Umfress said proceeds from the event will go to support Special Olympics Missouri.
Last year’s car show raised approximately $6,000. Umfress said this year’s fundraising goal is $10,000.
“We’re almost to that in sponsorships alone,” he said. “I have high hopes that we can probably raise $15,000 to $20,000.”
The event will also feature raffle baskets, a 50/50 raffle, food trucks and a DJ.
A fire truck splash pad from the High Ridge Fire Protection District also will be on site.
Umfress said more than 20 trophies will be awarded in categories such as Best Car, Best Truck, Best Motorcycle and Best in Show.
He also said the grand prize of the show is Athlete’s Choice chosen by athletes from Special Olympics Missouri.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s a beat-up Ford Pinto or a $500,000 Lamborghini, whatever the athletes’ say is their favorite car, that’s the car that gets chosen, and we allow the athletes to present that trophy to the winner,” Umfress said.
Umfress said online registration closed May 29, but cars will be accepted until the day of the show. Vehicle registration is $20.
Since 2020, the Byrnes Mill Police Department has been involved with Special Olympics Missouri.
Umfress recently organized the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.
On May 26, police officers from across Jefferson County and several Special Olympics athletes ran in relays more than 20 miles from St. Pius X High School in Festus to Arnold City Park along Hwy. 61-67.
“It was nice to see a lot of the businesses in town were coming out and cheering on the runners,” Umfress said. “A lot of people that were driving by us were honking, giving us a thumbs up. It was pretty cool to see the support of the community.”
