Brett Young of Barnhart earned first place in last year’s contest with photo of his granddaughter, Molly Young, then 1, of Pevely.

Now is the time to dig out your favorite photos of your grandchildren, great-grandchildren or event great-great-grandchildren for the chance to win cash.

The Show Off Your Grandkids contest is open to those 50 and older who live in Jefferson County, Eureka or Wildwood. The first-place winner will earn $100, second place will earn $75 and third will earn $50.

Entries will be judged on creativity, composition, charm and technical aspects such as crop, focus and lighting. The quality of the photograph will determine the winners; this is not a beauty contest for children.

Only one entry is permitted per child. A group photo counts as one entry for each child. People who have entered the contest in the past are welcome to do so again, but please send different photographs.

Photos must have been taken by the grandparent who submits the entry. Include the following information with the photo:

■ Photographer’s name, age, address and phone number. (Entries missing this information will not be considered for prizes.)

■ The first and last names of children in the photo, the town they are from and how they are related to you.

■ When and where the photo was taken.

■ A brief explanation of why the photograph is special to you.

The deadline to enter the contest is 5 p.m. Thursday, March 20.

Entries may be sent by mail: P.O. Box 159, Festus, 63028; brought in person: 503 N. Second St. in Festus; or sent by email: news@myleaderpaper.com

Photos will be returned if a self-addressed stamped envelope is included.

Winning photos will be published in the April 3 Grand Times, which will be inserted inside that week’s Leader. Additional photos will be printed as space allows.

Photos not published in the paper will be posted to the Leader website, myleaderpaper.com.

Upcoming expos, new event

The Show Off Your Grandkids photo contest is held in conjunction with the De Soto Senior Expo.

The Leader puts on several senior expos throughout the year, which include music, bingo, prizes, guest speakers, entertainment and vendors representing local businesses and organizations.

More information will be available in upcoming editions of the Grand Times, which are printed the Thursday before each event.

The following expos are planned for 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays around Jefferson County and Eureka:

■ De Soto Senior Expo, April 9, at the De Soto Knights of Columbus.

■ South County Senior Expo, May 7, at the Kennedy Recreation Complex in south St. Louis County.

■ Festus Senior Expo, June 18, at the Jefferson County Family YMCA in Festus.

■ West Side Senior Expo, July 16, at Northwest High School in Cedar Hill.

■ Arnold Senior Expo, Aug. 27, at the Arnold Eagles Hall.

■ Eureka Senior Expo, Oct. 22., at the Timbers of Eureka.

For the first time, Leader Publications is also putting on a Farmington Area Senior Expo, set for Sept. 24 at Mineral Area College’s Industry and Technology Center in Park Hills. The event will be similar to existing expos with vendors, speakers, bingo, prizes and more.

Businesses and organizations interested in securing a vendor space for any of the expos may contact the Leader at 636-931-7560 or ads@myleaderpaper.com.
