A Project Homeless Connect of Jefferson County event will be held tomorrow, April 20, to help those who are experiencing homelessness.
The outreach event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army Worship and Community Center, 3740 Telegraph Road, in Arnold. Preregistration is not required to attend.
JeffCo Express will provide free transportation to and from the event, with drop-off points along the Arnold Orange City Route.
Typically one Project Homeless Connect event is held in the fall in the northwest part of the county, but this year a second one has been added.
“The size of Jefferson County and concerns for those who rely solely on public transportation to attend have led to our planning two events a year with one along the I-55 corridor and the other along the Hwy. 30 corridor,” said Karen Ferrell, housing manager for Comtrea. “Our goal is to reach more individuals and to assist them in securing housing and bringing stability to their lives. We continue to see an increase in the number of people seeking services due to the county’s housing crisis and homelessness.”
At today’s event, more than 22 agencies and organizations will provide resources and information to those experiencing homelessness. The resources will relate to housing, utility assistance, employment, veterans, mental health, dental care, general wellness, birth certificates, pregnancy support, disability information and legal services.
More than 100 people attended Project Homeless Connect last September at The Peace Pantry in Cedar Hill. Organizers are planning a second event this fall.
