The Bean family of St. Charles won the best family costume award during last year’s Pocus Pomme event at Pomme Creek Park in Arnold. This year’s event will be held on Oct. 24.

The Arnold Parks and Recreation Department will hold the sixth annual Pocus Pomme event on Saturday, Oct. 24, in Pomme Creek Park, 1 Golfview Drive.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the movie “Casper” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. There is no admission fee to attend.

Along with the movie, a costume contest will be held, and hayrides will be available for $4 per rider. Parks and rec staff members also will sell food and beverages.

Those attending may bring their own food and beverages, and they are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets. Glass bottles and containers are not allowed.

“We are anticipating a crowd, and it will be a lot of fun,” said Montana Masters, parks and rec supervisor. “We are really excited to go all out and see what the community brings.”

Jack Hooper, parks and rec supervisor, said “Casper” was chosen to be shown this year because it is a family-friendly movie. The 1995 film is based on the cartoon series “Casper the Friendly Ghost,” and it stars Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman with Devon Sawa providing the voice of Casper.

Pullman, who plays a “ghost therapist,” moves into a mansion with his daughter, Ricci, and they meet Casper and his three uncles.

“I can’t remember the last time I watched it, but I have seen it before,” Hooper said. “It is a good movie for any age. It is for kids, but I think adults will enjoy it, too. I think it is a good option for everybody.”

The costume contest will be held at about 6:45 p.m. Masters said people may compete in 10 different categories for prizes.

“We are really excited to see the creativity of the community,” Masters said. “We will get to see what costumes are popular this year.”

The parks and rec staff will set up Halloween-themed yard games for people to use, and the hayrides will be available until 10 p.m.

“We try to bring things to the community for a low or no cost,” Masters said.

The city will provide a limited number of personal fire pits for a $75 fee. Hooper said as of Oct. 7, six of the 16 fire pits had been reserved.

People who want to rent a fire pit may call 636-282-6649 to find out if pits are still available.
