Northwest R-1 School District students will have the chance to march in a homecoming parade for the second year in a row.
“After 24 years without a parade, we brought back the parade in 2022,” said Chuck McPherson, communications and community relations coordinator for the Northwest School District.
It was such a big success, the school is holding it again, he said.
This year’s homecoming parade will commence at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at Crossroads Plaza and High Ridge Boulevard and proceed south on High Ridge Boulevard, ending at the intersection with Hwy. PP, he said.
“We will have most teams and clubs from the high school participating along with entries from the middle and elementary schools in the district,” said Dan Durso, a teacher and Student Council adviser at Northwest High School.
Onlookers and participants are encouraged to wear the school colors, blue and white, to show Northwest pride.
The parade will kick off a weekend full of homecoming activities for Northwest High students and their families.
The homecoming football game is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the high school, where the Lions will face off against the Oakville Tigers. Tickets to the game cost $5 for adults and $3 for students.
The homecoming king and queen will be crowned during the game. The queen candidates are seniors Alaina Gerling, Morgan Nix, Callie Wells and Haley Yount, and the king candidates are seniors Eric Banks, Alex Drexler, Dylan Sharp and Devon Vandiver.
The junior maid and escort are Lyla Lehnhoff and Evan Porter, and the sophomore maid and escort are Arabella Deluca and Adam Banks. The freshmen maid and escort are Jayla Martin and Chase Belcher.
The homecoming dance is set for Saturday, Sept. 30, in the Northwest High gymnasium.
