Northwest Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce craft fair set for May 11

The Northwest Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce craft fair is set from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Valley Middle School, 4300 Gravois Road, in House Springs.

The Northwest Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will hold its third annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Valley Middle School, 4300 Gravois Road, in House Springs.

Organizer Katelyn Mary Skaggs said more than 30 vendors have signed up to take part in the fair, but more are welcome to register.

Local crafters have until April 26 to email Skaggs at katelynmaryskaggs@leaderpublications.biz and reserve space.

It costs $50 for chamber members and $60 for non-chamber members to rent space at the fair.

Skaggs said proceeds from the vendor space rentals will go toward future chamber events, like a Memorial Day parade and December toy drive. The chamber also awards 10 scholarships to Northwest High School seniors.

Skaggs said the craft fair is being held to highlight smaller local businesses that may not have a brick-and-mortar location, adding that she’s pleased with the response so far.

“This is the most vendors we’ve ever had at the fair,” she said.

The venders will sell a variety of crafts, like jewelry, wreaths, gift baskets, bath products, tabletop decor and handcrafted gnomes, Skaggs said.

“We’ll also have a lot of people who do crocheted and knitted items,” she added.

With Mother’s Day on May 12, Skaggs said the craft fair is a good opportunity for shoppers to spend time with their moms or find the perfect gift.

“If you’re coming to the craft show for your mother, I can guarantee you will find something good for her, something from the heart,” she said.

Skaggs said a local Boy Scout troop will operate a concession stand at the fair to raise money for troop functions.

The fair will take place outside the middle school in a sectioned-off portion of the parking lot, Skaggs said, rain or shine.

About 400 people attended last year’s fair, and Skaggs said she hopes to see even more this year.

“We had a lot of good foot traffic last year, and I was very excited to see the event grow,” Skaggs said.

“I’m always extremely excited about the craft fair every year,” Skaggs said. “I always find lots of goodies that I can bring home and a gift for my mom. I hope other people come out and find the same things as well.”
