The Leader invites readers 50 and older to come out for the West Side Senior Expo on Wednesday, July 26 – a day filled with bingo, live music, prizes, speakers, vendors offering products and services of interest to seniors, and so much more.
The expo will run from 8 a.m. to noon at Northwest High School, 6005 Cedar Hill Road, near Hwy. 30 in Cedar Hill. Both admission and parking are free.
STL Golf Cart Shuttle will offer free limousine golf cart rides between the parking lot and the school. The company typically focuses on transportation to and from lots before and after St. Louis Cardinal baseball games.
Leader publisher Peggy Scott encourages seniors to attend the expo.
“We have some new activities, a petting zoo and a food truck, and we hope people will enjoy them,” she said. “I know whoever wins the grand prize will have a great time, so come out for a chance to win. Hope to see you there!”
What’s on tap?
Morning activities will begin with free coffee and doughnuts, courtesy of Leader Publications. From 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., a Lion’s Choice food truck will be on hand selling roast beef sandwiches and more.
More than 30 vendors will be set up at the event, ready to talk to seniors about what they have to offer. Many will hold giveaways and drawings for prizes, so attendees might want to bring along pre-printed address labels to make signing up easier.
The Leader will hold a drawing for a grand prize package that includes a two-night stay at the Echo Bluff State Park lodge near Eminence. The lodge lies along the Sinking Creek and offers great views of Echo Bluff. The package also includes a welcome basket with T-shirts, hats, travel coffee mugs, stickers and more.
In addition, the Leader will hold a drawing for a prize package from the St. Louis Art Museum, including a one-year membership.
For both drawings, attendees have to be present to win the prize.
Attendees also will have the chance to interact with animals from God’s Grace Animal Rescue, a nonprofit organization based in High Ridge.
The expo will include two free rounds of bingo, and J.B. Louis and the Legends band will close out the event, playing a mix of country and classic rock tunes.
The expo will include some speakers – Staci L. Templeton from Edward Jones, who will share information about how seniors can avoid scams, and Monika Lorenze, president of the German Cultural Society of St. Louis, and Dorris Keeven-Franke, president of the German American Committee of St. Louis, who will speak about German culture and heritage.
In addition, the Cedar Hill Fire Protection District will display a truck, and the Big River Ambulance District will have an ambulance on display.
