Job seekers would be wise to attend the fourth annual Jefferson County Job Fair, which will offer an opportunity for local businesses and companies looking to hire to connect with those who are looking for employment.
The free event is slated to run from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Fox C-6 Service Center, 849 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold.
About 50 employers will participate, with recruiters on hand to provide information, take applications and interview applicants. The employers are seeking workers in a variety of fields, including health care, manufacturing, information technology, communications and transportation.
They are looking for full-time and part-time workers; with experience or without; those seeking first-ever jobs or retirement jobs. Many employers provide training and offer signing bonuses to qualified candidates.
Those who attend the fair will get the chance to ask employers questions, get advice and get a more in-depth perspective than they would by just going to a website.
“There’s nothing like face-to-face, human interaction to engage people,” Leader publisher Peggy Scott said. “Even with so much of the job-hunting and hiring process done electronically these days, there’s a place for the human touch. Employees can tell right away if they think the job would be a good fit for them.”
The Job Fair, presented by Express Employment Professionals, also is sponsored by Leader Publications, the Arnold Chamber of Commerce, the Fox C-6 School District, the city of Arnold and Jefferson College.
Representatives from Jefferson College’s Workforce and Employment Services office will be on hand to assist job seekers develop and submit resumes; hone solid interview skills; and make connections in the business world.
A professional photographer will be on hand to take free digital portraits for job seekers to use on social media.
For the first time, Jefferson College will have a variety of clothing items on hand to give away, courtesy of the college’s Career Closet, a program that makes professional clothing and interview attire available to local job applicants at no charge.
In addition, fair attendees will have the chance to win prizes at the event.
