Jefferson County Fair organizers have canceled all the events that had been scheduled for Thursday, July 20, because of wet, muddy conditions at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 10349 Business 21, in Hillsboro.

However, the activities planned for Friday through Sunday, July 21-23, are still on, and, in fact, the fair hours for Saturday and Sunday have been extended, organizers announced on Facebook.

“Due to excessive rainfall, the arena is so wet we decided to delay opening the fair to Friday,” said Kristi Crocker, office manager of the Hillsboro Community Civic Center, which puts on the annual event. “Friday hours remain as scheduled. Saturday and Sunday, we will start earlier at noon. It was supposed to start at 4 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.”

Fair hours are now to be held from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday into Saturday; noon to 1 a.m. Saturday into Sunday; and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Crocker said activities that had been scheduled for Thursday will not be rescheduled.

“We don’t have enough time in our schedule for rescheduling motocross or Torchlight Parade, the band that was to play Thursday,” she said.
