More than 100 pieces of art created by about 25 area artists currently are on display at the Arnold Recreation Center, 1695 Missouri State Road, as part of the annual Jefferson County Art Guild show.
Sheila Michael of Barnhart took first place with her colored pencil piece depicting a jonquil.
Admission is free to attend the show, which runs through Saturday, Nov. 25. The rec center is open from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
“We look forward to the show every year,” Art Guild president Sonja Ecton said. “It is our showcase for the year.”
The show opened on Nov. 11, with Anthony Borchardt, the curator at Fontbonne University’s Fine Art Gallery, judging the submissions.
Lori Herres of Hillsboro won the Best of Show award for her painting titled “Hippity Hoppity.”

The guild also will hand out a People’s Choice Award for the piece that receives the most votes from the public. Those who visit the display through Nov. 25 may vote for their favorite piece at the rec center.
The People’s Choice Award will be announced after the show ends, Ecton said.
She said nearly anyone who attends the show will find something that appeals to them since artists submitted pieces in nearly every medium. In addition to paintings and drawings, the show includes photography, sculpture, pottery, glasswork, collage, and wood and metal work.
“There is some really nice art,” Ecton said. “It is local artists doing their thing, and they are all very talented folks. It is a really good show to see.”
Ecton said many of the pieces on display are for sale. Those interested in buying a piece may contact guild member Jill Thompson at 314-973-3764.
“The Arnold Recreation Center helps immensely because we get a lot of people buying our art from there,” she said. “Those who come to the show may find an artist they really like, and they can keep an eye on that artist for other works they may be interested in purchasing.”
