Jefferson College will hold an electronic recycling drop-off event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30.
Drop-off will be in the yellow lot near the Fine Arts building, 1000 Viking Drive on the Hillsboro campus.
Matt Keeney, the college’s Environmental and Safety Committee chair, said Jefferson College partners with Jefferson County and Midwest Recycling Center to hold the event.
He said the event provides a safe and responsible way to dispose of unwanted electronics, keeping harmful materials out of landfills.
“It’s also an important opportunity to raise awareness about sustainability and encourage more environmentally conscious habits within our community,” Keeney said.
All electronics and appliances are accepted. Some fees may be required to dispose of items.
Disposal fees are charged for CRT monitors, $5; CRT TVs 26 inches or less, $30; CRT TVs 27 inches or greater, $50; wood consoles and true big screen/projection TVs, $50; LED, LCD or plasma TVs,$20; any unit containing Freon, $10; and printers, copiers or multifunctioning printer, $5.
Items that also will be accepted, include paper, plastic, aluminum cans and cardboard. Paper shredding is free.
Plastic bags and Styrofoam will not be accepted.
Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles during the unloading.
The St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management District and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources pay for the event.
