The Herculaneum Fire Department will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at its firehouse, 151 Riverview Plaza Drive.
Chief Kevin Baker said the department tries to hold an open house every year, but the event has been put on hold the past few years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re trying to get it going again. This will be our first year after COVID of holding an open house,” he said.
Baker said the event will focus on safety and will include activities for both adults and children to enjoy, spraying fire hoses, looking at fire equipment and talking with firefighters.
In addition, coloring books and safety brochures will be available.
He said he hopes the activities will encourage the public to get to know the Herculaneum firefighters.
Personnel from the Rock Community Fire Protection District and the Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District also will be at the event.
Rock Community plans to bring its E.D.I.T.H. (Exit Drills in the Home) trailer for safety demonstrations, offering attendees the chance to learn about household hazards and emergency evacuation plans.
Joachim-Plattin will give CPR demonstrations.
“It’s not going to be a full-blown CPR class,” said Baker. “It’s just kind of, ‘Here’s how CPR works.’”
Baker said the open house format will allow people to come and go throughout the day.
