The Fox C-6 Transportation Department will have buses at the recruitment fair for prospective drivers to test drive.

The Fox C-6 School District will hold a support staff recruitment fair for the first time in its history to try to fill more than 60 open positions.

During the Fox C-6 Support Staff Recruitment Fair, set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Fox C-6 Service Center, 849 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold, the district will be looking to hire bus drivers, food service employees, custodians, maintenance staff, teacher assistants and aides and Character Kids Club staff.

The district also is hiring substitute teachers.

Kelly Bracht, assistant superintendent of human resources, said during previous school years district representatives attended up to a dozen job fairs held by other organizations, but the number of job fairs has dwindled, so Fox decided to hold its own.

The district has a total of 65 positions open, some full-time jobs and some part-time, Bracht said.

“Support staff professionals are crucial members of the staff and perform essential duties every day,” she said. “Filling these positions is incredibly important because providing a high-quality education to our students takes a team effort from our entire school staff.”

The starting pay for the various open jobs ranges from $11.80 per hour to $27.98 per hour. The maximum pay for the open positions is between $16.77 per hour to $41.21 per hour based on experience.

Full-time support staff members also receive paid health and dental benefits.

Fox district representatives will be at the fair to answer questions about the open positions. The district also will have online and paper applications available for prospective employees to fill out and the first interview may be conducted during the fair, Bracht said.

“Fox C-6 is a great place to work,” she said. “The district offers competitive pay and paid benefits to employees. But more than that, our employees take pride in the work they do because they serve their local community. The next generation of leaders are walking through our hallways each day, and being able to help make them into the people they will become is the greatest benefit of working for Fox C-6.”

The transportation department will have buses at the fair to give potential drivers a chance to test drive the vehicles. The transportation department also offered test drives when it held its own recruitment fair in July.

The transportation department’s event attracted 25 potential candidates and four applied to become district bus drivers, director of transportation Gary Cross said.

Cross said three of the people who applied are scheduled to take their certification exam, and they are expected to start driving for the district by the end of this month.

When the school year started on Aug. 24, the district had 68 full-time and part-time drivers available to handle 64 routes, and Fox could not provide transportation for elementary students who live within about 1 mile from their school and middle and high school students who live within about 2 miles from their schools.

Those no transportation zones initially left 2,116 students without district-provided transportation at the start of the school year. However, Fox has increased the number of students it will transport throughout the school year.

“We have added about 335 students back to buses,” Cross said on Sept. 14.
