The Festus R-6 School District will hold its annual Veterans Day Parade on Monday, Nov. 11, and is seeking veterans to participate.
The parade, which will mainly include vehicle entries, will start at 11:30 a.m. and travel through the streets of Festus. Those taking part in the parade need to take their vehicles to the back lot of Festus Intermediate School, 1501 Mid-Meadow Lane in Festus by 10:30 a.m. to join the lineup.
The parade will proceed from Westwind Drive to Mid-Meadow Lane between the elementary and middle schools and turn left on Robert Pryor Drive and then right on Sunshine Drive and left onto to Main Street, finishing at Brierton Lane.
Veterans are invited to participate in the parade and are strongly urged to RSVP by Friday, Nov. 8, by calling Festus Middle School at 636-937-5417. Those seeking more information about the event also should call the Middle School.
Kevin Pope, the district’s coordinator of communications and special projects, said district officials are working hard to reach veterans.
“All local recruiting offices will be sending soldiers,” he said. “Gold Star Harley-Davidson will be bringing a group of riders. De Soto Amvets will be bringing a group of riders, and Helping Hands and Horses will be bringing their veteran group of horse riders to be a part of the parade as well.”
Pope said many local veterans, including Purple Heart recipients, will take part, as will local veterans groups.
