Vintage cars cruise Bailey Road/Main Street at the 2021 event.

The Festus Mayor’s Summer Car Cruise on Saturday, June 3, will offer people the chance to relive their younger days when they spent weekend nights cruising around town. It also will offer car enthusiasts the chance to see some classics, organizer Barb Lowry said.

The car show will begin at 2 p.m. on the Festus Public Library parking lot, 400 W. Main St. DJ music will be provided from 2-8 p.m. on the parking lot, and the cruise is expected to begin at 6 p.m.

The city of Festus and the Festus Tourism Commission sponsor the event.

Lowry, the Festus recreation and tourism director, said a lot of people enjoy the Summer Car Cruise, as well as the one held in the fall.

“It gives older people – I include myself in this – a chance to relive their youth,” she said. “It’s just a fun time. It’s all the same stuff everybody likes.”

There is no fee to attend or participate in the car show, which is also a just-for-fun event, Lowry said.

“There’s no judging,” she said. “It’s a display-only show. We will have commemorative dash plaques for car show participants. The lot is always full (of cars on display).”

It’s also free to take part in the cruise and drive up and down Main Street, Lowry said.

Spectators are encouraged to come out, with their lawn chairs, and watch the parade of vehicles from the sidewalk.

“There’s no set time for the cruise to stop,” Lowry said. “There’s kind of an ebb and flow. It continues until people go home.”

All licensed vehicles are welcome, but traffic laws will be enforced, she said.

“We’re looking forward to a good time,” Lowry said.

She said the next big event for the city will be the Twin City Firecracker Festival on June 23-24 at Larry G. Crites Memorial Park along Old Hwy. A.
