Students and residents throughout Jefferson County will gather in Fox High School’s Gerald O’Connor Stadium in Arnold to share their faith.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Ozark Gateway chapter will hold a Fields of Faith event from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the stadium, 751 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold.
Fields of Faith is a national program typically held every year on the second Wednesday of October. It is a student-led ministry program that has high school athletes gather at sporting environments in their communities to challenge their peers to read the Bible daily and grow in their relationship with Jesus and his church, according to the website fieldsoffaith.org.
Jim Ray, FCA Ozark Gateway director and former Lone Dell Elementary School principal, said he believes this is the first time the event will be held at Fox High.
He said FCA Ozark Gateway has held the event at Central High School in Park Hills, and a Fields of Faith event also will be held there on Oct. 8.
“It helps the students to see that it is OK to share your faith,” Ray said of Fields of Faith. “It also encourages them to know there are students at other schools who are trying to live out their faith in an active way. It gets the word out about the FCA, and more importantly, it glorifies God. It gives people a chance to come together to express their faith in a loving way.”
Ray said the event is open to everyone, and there is no admission fee to attend.
He said students throughout the county, including those from Fox, Seckman, Windsor, Crystal City, Festus and Hillsboro high schools, are expected to attend. He also said numerous youth church groups are also expected to be at the event.
“We will have multiple denominations represented,” Ray said. “It is cool to see the different schools and churches come together.”
Ray said students will talk about how God has impacted their life, and a student praise team will lead the group in worship.
Cody Terry, a former FAC staff member, will be the speaker at the event.
“He will talk about how FCA has impacted his life,” Ray said. “He will also encourage the students to share their faith and love.”
