About 10,000 shoppers typically attend the Eureka Chamber of Commerce’s annual Garage Sale and Swap Meet.

The Eureka Chamber of Commerce will hold its 17th annual Garage Sale and Swap Meet from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Six Flags, 4900 Six Flags Road.

“We usually expect about 10,000 shoppers overall,” chamber executive director Krista Overstreet said. “It’s a fun event for all. There are a lot of neat people to meet and getting to know them, what they’re selling or the history behind what they’re selling is great. There are stories everywhere.”

Overstreet said approximately 500 vendors will be at the event, including 18 who will sell food.

Entry into the event is $10 per vehicle, Overstreet said.

She said proceeds from ticket sales and vendor fees go toward chamber functions and scholarships awarded to Eureka High School seniors.

She said the event is divided into three sections – the garage sale, the artisan booths and the swap area.

The garage sale section is the largest, Overstreet said.

“There’s anywhere from home decor, furniture, antiques, really anything and everything you can think of,” she said. “There’s a treasure out there for everyone.”

Overstreet said the chamber decided to continue inviting vendors selling homemade crafts after last year’s positive feedback.

She said the swap section of the event usually attracts car and motorcycle enthusiasts.

Overstreet advises those interested in attending to wear comfortable walking shoes.

“People are going to get there at 7 a.m. because they want to find the first finds and everything, but it pretty much stays consistently busy throughout the day,” she said. “We’ve done it for so many years now that we’ve kind of got it down to a science as far as getting people in and getting them parked so they can have the best experience possible.”

Overstreet said an ATM will be available at the event. She said some vendors accept credit cards, but it’s not guaranteed.

“We’ll have a big, nice selection for the people attending, so come out and have a good time,” Overstreet said.
