The Dunklin R-5 School District has several Veterans Day events planned on Tuesday, Nov. 10, including breakfast, a parade and an assembly.
Lindsey Fitzgibbons, Herculaneum High School English teacher and student council sponsor, said the events are put together by the student council and leadership class at the high school.
“Students are inviting the veterans in their life, contacting veterans that have participated in the past, and hanging flyers around the school and community,” she said.
Veterans must RSVP to the events and may choose which events they would like to attend.
From 9-9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a complimentary breakfast will be served at Senn-Thomas Middle School. After breakfast ends, veterans who chose to RSVP will line up outside in their cars at 9:45 for a parade.
The school’s SRO officer will lead the veterans’ cars through the parade route from the middle school to Pevely Elementary, Taylor Early Childhood Center and end at Herculaneum High School.
Once the parade ends, the assembly will begin at 10 a.m. in the high school.
The assembly will open with a welcome statement from principal Stephanie Dix followed by various guest and student speakers. Some of the district’s band and choir students will also perform various patriotic tunes to honor veterans.
“We have had positive feedback from veterans in the past,” Fitzgibbons said. “They appreciate the solemn tone of the assembly, the respect shown by the students and the overall feeling of thankfulness.”
