De Soto organizations will continue to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with the 20th annual Veterans Day Parade next month.
The Veterans Day Parade is sponsored by the De Soto Elks Lodge 689, De Soto Chamber of Commerce, Amvets Post 48, Knights of Columbus Post 1185 and VFW Post 1831, in cooperation with the city. It will be held along Main Street at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
Organizer Mike Thurmond said this year, the parade, like the Fourth of July Parade and the Christmas parade to come, is celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday.
He said the plan is to have a representative of each military branch serve as the parade marshals this year.
The format and parade route, starting at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., remain the same this year.
No registration is required, and there is no cost. Thurmond said anyone is welcome to walk in the parade or decorate a vehicle and take part in the parade. Participants may hand out candy.
“I just want people to show up,” he said.
