De Soto Goes Pink will hold its first Witching for a Cure festival on Saturday, Oct. 22, to raise funds for local women who have breast cancer.

The festival will be held at 9:30 a.m. along De Soto’s Main Street from Miller Street to Amvets Drive. The event will run through the afternoon, organizer Linda Henry said.

“It’s kind of Halloween themed,” she said. “We will have vendors, a cornhole tournament, a barbecue, a beer garden and a car show. There will be raffles. We will have live music.

“Bill Lucas will play from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. He plays guitar, a variety of music. Johnny Lindsey also plays guitar and will play a variety of music.”

In addition, the De Soto Public Library and a number of De Soto businesses will participate in the festival, Henry said.

“The De Soto Public Library will hold a book sale, with some proceeds going to De Soto Goes Pink,” she said.

Henry said Witching for a Cure will be held “rain or shine.”

De Soto Goes Pink, a charitable organization, held its 11th annual De Soto Goes Pink Walk on Oct. 15. The group raised about $4,000 at the 5-kilometer walk from Spross Park to Mahn Funeral Home in De Soto, Henry said.

“The numbers were a little down for the walk,” she said. “We had about 70 walkers. There was a lot of competition from other events that day.”

Henry said De Soto Goes Pink’s mission is to provide those with breast cancer financial and emotional support.

“We’ve got a lot of people with breast cancer who need help,” she said. “De Soto Goes Pink helps with electric bills, gas bills, house payments, co-pays, hospital and doctor’s office visits, gas cards – whatever they need.”
