The De Soto Farmers Market will hold two activities this summer to get community members involved in healthy activities – Family Olympics Day and Market Quest.

Morgan Sitkowski, manager of the De Soto Farmers Market, said Family Olympics Day will be held from 2-5 p.m. Saturday in the field at the De Soto Athletic Complex North, 800 Vineland School Road.

She said this is a new event for the Farmers Market. The competition is for people of all ages, including groups of family or friends. The cost is $20 for a team of three or four people.

Sitkowski said teams will compete in a series of 10 fun and silly events, such as a tomato toss, junk food snack toss, cookie face race, water cup relay, as well as lawn bowling, compost Scrabble and garden escape, which is a blindfolded minefield game.

Prizes will be awarded for the top finishers: $60 for first place; $40 for second place and $20 for third place. Half of each prize will be cash and the other half will be Market Cash to be redeemed at the Farmers Market, she said.

Sitkowski said the event is designed to bring community members together to have a “happy, healthy day,” to go along with this year’s Farmers Market theme of “Happy Healthy Garden.”

To sign up, find DeSoto Farmers Market on Facebook or email market@gethealthydesoto.org.

Market Quest

Market Quest, a citywide scavenger hunt, will be held on Aug. 9.

The activity, which is open to all ages, will begin at 9 a.m. at the Farmers Market, 520 N. Main St.

Sitkowski said the Farmers Market has held the event before. The cost will be $30 for a team of up to four players.

She said prizes will be awarded.

More details will be posted on the Farmers Market’s Facebook page in coming weeks.
