De Soto High School is celebrating homecoming this week with a parade, football game and other activities.
The Homecoming Parade will start at 3 p.m. Friday, beginning at Mahn Funeral Home and continuing down Main Street to St. Louis Street and ending at the football field parking lot.
De Soto High School Principal Jon Roop said the De Soto High School Dragons varsity football team will face the Fredericktown High School Blackcats at 7 p.m. Friday. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students from other districts. De Soto students are admitted for free. For those wanting stadium chairs, tickets are $15 per seat.
The homecoming court will be recognized before the football game at approximately 6:20 p.m., but the king and queen won’t be crowned until the Homecoming Dance on Saturday.
Members of the homecoming court are seniors Ella Bell, Jayden Carpenter, Melody Pigg, Natalie Rogers, Nathan Belfield, Bryant Farmer, Quaid Pruitt and Jackson Turnbo; juniors Shelby Burke, Bailey Courtois, Raegan Shropshire, Peyson Casey, Josh Golightly and Cody Koch; sophomores Elizabeth McClinton, Alexis Slamp, Madison Thomas, Cayden Ashe, Parker Brown and Jaxxon Sullivan; and freshmen Braylee Davis, Clarey Huck, Jaylee Merseal, Reid Davis, Carston Smothers and Beau Weber.
The Student Council planned a Haunted Hoco Spirit Week with the theme “Fright of the Year.” Theme days included Creepin’ It Cozy Day on Monday; Frightful Fibs Day on Tuesday; and Haunting Hues Day on Wednesday; as well as Boo! Day today, Oct. 2, and Dragon Pride Day on Friday.
Roop said a powder-puff football game was new this year. It was scheduled to be held on Wednesday at the football field to raise money for incentives and field trips for high school students. The annual pep assembly for students will be held Friday morning.
