Crystal City High School will hold homecoming activities next week with spirit week activities, a parade and a football game.
“The students always look forward to homecoming week,” said Steve Eisenbeis, Crystal City High School’s activities director.
The homecoming week kicks off at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, with a bonfire and pep rally at JJ Commerford Stadium. Eisenbeis said there is usually a pretty good turnout.
This year’s homecoming theme is “Welcome to the Jungle.”
During the school week, students can participate in spirit days. Spirit competitions will take place throughout the week culminating in prizes and recognition for students.
There will also be fundraising opportunities where students can purchase chances to pie a teacher in the face or sink them in a dunk tank.
“I have already heard many of them getting excited about the dunk tank and throwing the pie in a teacher’s face,” Eisenbeis said.
Many other activities will be held leading up to the parade on Friday, Oct. 10, including competitions and the high school pep assembly before the parade.
Students will be dismissed from school early on Oct. 10 for the homecoming parade at 1:30 p.m.
The parade will leave from the Crystal City High School parking lot, then travel down Mississippi Avenue, turn right on Bailey Road and end at the Mississippi River Eagles parking lot.
Students have been building floats for the homecoming parade this week.
“Lots of kids participate in that, as there is a competition between the classes for best float,” Eisenbeis said.
Everyone is welcome to watch the parade.
“You always find the streets lined with students, parents, community members and alumni,” Eisenbeis said.
This year’s parade grand marshal is John Bailey.
“He has been a constant fixture around the school community lately, as a popular substitute teacher and City Council member,” Eisenbeis said.
The Hornets varsity football team will play against the Duchesne High School Pioneers, with kickoff at 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
Admission to the game is $3 for adults, $2 for senior citizens age 60 and older and $1 for students. Admission is free for children in kindergarten or younger and student athletes.
During halftime, the homecoming king and queen will be crowned. The homecoming court includes freshmen: Leighton Dorlac, Hailey Schilly, Kolton Adams and Nick Patton; sophomores: Karly Klamert, Hayley Stahl, Carter Elliott and Kevin Oliver; juniors: Kadence Buechting, Camryn Compton, Conner Miller and Elias Miller; and seniors: Payton Dugal, Sierra Calhoun, Leah Morani, Maya Hankins, Lia Mills, Ricardo Pastrana, London Patton, Riley Hendrickson, Landyn DeRousse and David Parham.
The dance for students will be on Oct. 11.
