County parks department to hold first egg scavenger hunt

Wooden eggs will be hidden by Jefferson County Parks and Recreation staff in five county parks in April.

The Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Department is inviting the public to take part in its first-ever Easter egg scavenger hunt from April 1-30.

County staff members will hide a total of 40 decorated wooden eggs in five of the county’s 14 parks by the end of March, said athletic coordinator Kaley Behnen.

The scavenger hunt will be limited to the following five parks: Morse Mill Park, 6700 Park Road; Sunridge Park, 8093 Tower Road, in the Hillsboro area; Kimmswick Park, 5900 Mississippi St.; Northwest Sports Complex, 4900 Byrnesville Road, in House Springs; and the High Ridge Civic Center, 2800 Community Lane.

Residents are encouraged to take part in the fun and snap a photo with their found egg and post it on social media with the hashtag JeffcomoParks.

“Our goal for this community engagement project is to create a fun activity to encourage residents to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors and explore our world,” Behnen said. “It gives everyone an opportunity to learn more about Jefferson County parks.”

Behnen said the parks department sold the 40 wooden eggs for $5 each to local businesses and residents. The department sold all the eggs in mid-March.

The egg sponsors have until March 28 to decorate the eggs and return them to the department so county staff may hide them in the parks.

Behnen said participants will be asked to leave the eggs where they’ve found them so others may continue their search for all 40 eggs.

Behnen said the proceeds from the egg sponsorships will go toward park improvements and community engagement.
