The Cedar Hill Fire Protection District will hold an open house Saturday, offering tours of Station 1 and the chance to try on firefighting gear.
The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station 1, 6766 Cedar Hill Road in Cedar Hill.
Chief David Jones said attendees can meet with firefighters and command staff; take tours of the engine house and get an up-close look at fire trucks and equipment.
“We’re showcasing our equipment and the station,” Jones said. “We’ll have some extra turnout gear available if people want to try it on, put an air pack on, to see what it’s like and what a firefighter has to go through.”
Firefighters will also set up a game for children, Jones said, using fire extinguishers to squirt water at various targets.
District officials will also be on hand to answer questions residents may have about Proposition Fire, a bond issue that will appear on the Aug. 4 primary ballot.
Prop Fire is a $11.6 million bond issue that, if approved, would provide funds to replace the district’s aging equipment, provide more training opportunities and hire more firefighters. Voters rejected the same bond issue in the April 8, 2025, election by just 14 votes.
A table at the open house will be set up with plans the district has if the proposition is passed, Jones said. The table is purely informational and is not intended to sway residents to vote one way or the other, he said.
Last year, in celebration of its 75th anniversary, the district held three open houses in one day, at each of its engine houses. Jones said the weather was poor that day, so turnout was low. He’s hoping more people can attend the open house planned for Saturday.
