Cedar Hill Community Day is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Big River VFW Post 5331, 1 Lynn Lane.
Jaime Jones, president of the Cedar Hill Fire Protection Auxiliary, said proceeds from the event will benefit the Missouri Fire Service Funeral Assistance Team in St. Louis.
“It’s an organization that’s near and dear to our hearts,” Jones said. “They’ve helped us quite a bit when we lost one of our own firefighters a few years back. We want to give back in any way we can.”
Jones said the event will have a slew of vendors, food trucks and booths for people to peruse. Many vendors who take part in the weekly Cedar Hill Farmers and Vendors Market held at the VFW will stick around and take part in the Community Day, too, Jones said. The farmer’s market is held at 8 a.m. every Saturday.
Some Community Day vendors include Rural Cute Creations, a jewelry business; Sharon’s Elegant Clips, which makes hair accessories; and Sassy Rascals, a baby clothing boutique.
A portion of the fees vendors pay to be a part of the event will go to the Missouri Fire Service Funeral Assistance Team, Jones said.
She said no carnival rides will be set up this year because the company usually used for the event has gone out of business and it’s been difficult to find a suitable replacement.
Louie, the St. Louis Blues mascot, will be at the event from 1-2 p.m.
An ice cream truck and Sissy’s Sweet Treats in Cedar Hill, which sells artfully decorated sugar cookies, will offer sugary confections, Jones said.
The Lion’s Choice food truck and the Strutt’s Turkey Legs food truck will be at the event as well, Jones said.
Salty Medics Kitchen based in House Springs will offer street tacos, and the S+S Farms Petting Zoo in High Ridge will bring various animals people may interact with, including a donkey, alpaca and goats.
Cedar Hill Fire will set up a safety house to help teach children about fire safety. A bounce house also will be available.
Jones said Cedar Hill Fire and Big River Ambulance District will have trucks at the event, as long as no emergencies arise.
“We want to do a family-friendly event,” she said. “Please come out, have a good time with your family.”
