The city of Byrnes Mill will hold an electronic recycling and paper shredding drop-off event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 7, at City Hall, 141 Osage Executive Circle.
Byrnes Mill Mayor Rob Kiczenski said the city is partnering with Midwest Recycling Center for the event.
“It’s a good event to do,” he said.
Paper and documents will be shredded for free. However, a fee will be charged to recycle some electronics.
The cost is $30 to recycle CRT TVs that are 26 inches and smaller; $50 for and CRT TVs that are 27 inches and larger. It will cost $5 to recycle a CRT monitor.
It will cost $50 each to recycle console, DLP or rear-projection TVs and $20 each for LED, LCD or plasma TVs.
Any device containing freon will cost $10 each to recycle, while it costs $5 each for printers, copiers and MFPs.
City officials said those who want to recycle items that require a fee must pay in cash.
Kiczenski said the city has offered electronic recycling during the annual citywide cleanup day, along with separate paper shredding events.
“The problem with us collecting electronics was that we had to cart them off somewhere else, and we had to keep them for a couple of days, so it just took more time,” he said. “We feel it’s better to partner with somebody to come up here and do that, and then they can take (the electronics) directly and get rid of it.”
