Byrnes Mill officials are asking residents to help keep the city beautiful by participating in the annual Community Clean Up Day on April 25.

From 9 a.m. to noon at the Byrnes Mill Recycling Center, 4197 Lower Byrnes Mill Road, items including appliances, mattresses and tires can be dropped off.

Glass, glass doors, windows, furniture that is light enough for two people to carry, paint cans, and lawn and garden equipment will also be accepted.

Refrigerators and freezers must have the doors off and refrigerant drained before drop-off, and oil and gas should be removed from lawn and garden equipment, officials said.

Hazardous materials, roof shingles, building supplies, electronics or household garbage will not be accepted, they said.

To participate, residents can purchase tags in advance at Byrnes Mill City Hall, 141 Osage Executive Circle from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The last day to purchase tags is April 22.

A pickup truck load will cost $50 per load in advance or $60 on the day of the cleanup.

Appliances will cost $15 each in advance and $20 on the day of the event. Tires will cost $4 each at City Hall and $5 at the recycling center.

Twin/full-size mattresses will cost $15 each in advance and $20 each the day of the cleanup. Queen-size mattresses will cost $25 each in advance and $30 at the recycling center. King-size mattresses will cost $30 each at City Hall and $35 each on the day of the cleanup.

City Administrator Melinda Benedict said keeping the community clean is something everyone benefits from and the cleanup event is part of that effort.

“It gives residents a simple, responsible way to get rid of large or unwanted items that might otherwise end up sitting around properties or being dumped illegally,” she said.

Benedict also said one of the most important parts of the program is the support it offers to elderly residents who may not be able to move heavy items on their own.

“With the help of volunteers who assist with pickup, we’re able to make this service accessible to everyone,” she added.
