The Jefferson High School calendar for Oct. 3-11 is chock-full of homecoming activities.
The football Blue Jays will take on the Grandview Eagles at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Blue Jay Stadium, Dooling Hollow Road, just off Hwy. 61 south of Festus. Admission to the game is $3 for adults and $1 for students.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Blue Jays Take Flight.” The district kicked off its festivities on Oct. 3, with pep rallies for younger students at Telegraph Intermediate, Plattin Primary and Danby-Rush Tower Middle schools.
The homecoming bonfire roared into life Oct. 5 on the high school campus.
Starting Monday, Oct. 6, districtwide Spirit Days events will be held as follows:
■ Monday, Oct. 6 – Class Color day.
■ Tuesday, Oct. 7 – Tacky Tourist Day. This is also the day for students to take part in a PTO “Fun Run” event.
■ Wednesday, Oct. 8 – Cleared for Takeoff Day (Dress as anyone at the airport – passengers, pilots, flight attendants, etc.).
■ Thursday, Oct. 9 – Dream Destination Day (Creatively represent your dream destination).
■ Friday, Oct. 10 – “We’re all in this together” Blue Jay Day (wear blue and white).
Friday will start with an 8:15 a.m. pep rally in the high school gym. A carnival will be held for high school students, with games and prizes.
New this year is the “Drive to Donate” program sponsored by Reuther Ford. It will begin at 11 a.m. at the football field entrance. Licensed drivers 18 and older are invited to take a free test drive and fill out a brief survey. Ford will donate $30 for each qualifying test drive, up to a total of $6,000.
Students will begin lining up for the annual homecoming parade at about 12:30 p.m. Friday, and the parade will step off at 1:30 p.m. at the high school, traveling down Blue Jay Way, then right on Dooling Hollow to the football stadium. This year’s parade grand marshal is longtime district science teacher Cori Duepner.
Homecoming court recognition and a king/queen coronation ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., immediately before the start of the football game.
The homecoming court includes freshmen Kendall Broadwater and Rhett Kerley, Olivia Tindall and Asher Hedgcoth; sophomores Gianna Barbagallo and Jack Klump, Lily Ehrhardt and Karter Bradshaw; juniors Olivia Lee and Talon Watson, Kendall Neel and Colton Broadwater, along with the king and queen candidates – seniors Louise Duepner and Logan Vandeven; Peyton Guffey and Blake Hampton; Ella Hueter and Seth Whitener; Halayna Loyd and Bo Davis; Baylor Pemberton and Noah Buehler; and Emerson Selsor and Cooper Frisk.
On Saturday, Oct. 11, the homecoming dance will be held from 7-9 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
