The Festus Art Walk will bring the works of dozens of artists to town on Sunday.
The public is invited to the event, which will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Festus Main Street and will include live music and the sale of food and drinks. It is free to attend.
“What we wanted was to create an art atmosphere in downtown Festus,” said Michelle Hohmeier, an event organizer. “We’re trying to have a really good art fair similar to what they have in St. Louis.”
The event has gone through name changes over the years, but is continuing as the Festus Art Walk for the second year in a row. Among its former titles were the Tanglefoot Summerfest Artwalk and A Taste of Tanglefoot. The Festus Main Street Association, formerly the Historic Tanglefoot Association, is sponsoring the event and received a $7,500 grant from the Festus Tourism Commission to help put it on.
Hohmeier said visitors to the festival will have the opportunity to view art works in a variety of mediums.
“There will be all sorts of artists, including some crafty kinds of artists,” Hohmeier said. “We also have junior artists. We have six teenage artists from local high schools. There will be potters, painters and some mixed media artists. Also, wood turners.
“The art is for display and for purchase.”
Musical performances will be held in front of Pogolino’s Pizza & More, 29 E. Main St., and in front of Petit Paree Restaurant & Lounge, 228 E. Main St.
The performers at Pogolino’s include Jason Cole from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Anne Gregg from 1:30-4 p.m. Performers at Petit Paree will be Down to Funk from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Hollie Schultz from 1:30-4 p.m.
She said participating food trucks include Pedal’n Pi, Kanoa’s Hawaiian Grill and The Hangry Hub. In addition, La Chance Winery will sell wine at the event.
Some downtown shops that do not normally operate on Sundays will be open for business during the event.
In a nod to May 4 being the informal “Star Wars Day” since the movie series’ catchphrase “May the force be with you” sounds like “May the Fourth be with you,” attendees are encouraged to dress in costumes from the popular film series, Hohmeier said.
“There’s no contest. It’s just for fun,” she said.
