An exciting morning is in store for visitors at the Arnold Senior Expo on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Arnold Eagles, 1725 Jeffco Blvd. The event is for those 50 and older and is sponsored by Grand Times, Leader Publications’ magazine for seniors.

Admission is free for the event, which will offer a full schedule of bingo, live music, speakers, food, prizes and more.

Doors will open at 8 a.m., with free coffee and doughnuts, courtesy of Leader Publications, while supplies last.

Parking is free on the Eagles’ lot, and St. Louis Golf Cart Shuttle will offer free limousine golf cart rides between the parking lot and the expo entrance, beginning at 8 a.m. The company typically focuses on transportation to and from parking lots before and after St. Louis Cardinal baseball games. To receive a shuttle ride, stand by your car and someone will pick you up on a golf cart.

Leader publisher Peggy Scott encourages seniors to attend the expo.

“It’s going to be a full morning,” she said. “We’re going to have many enjoyable activities and lots of exciting prizes. We hope to see you there!”

What’s happening?

More than 50 vendors will be on hand, offering products and services of interest to seniors. Many will hold giveaways and drawings for prizes, so attendees might want to bring along pre-printed address labels to make signing up easier.

The expo will include two free rounds of bingo in front of the stage, with prizes of gift cards and free T-shirts, courtesy of Leader Publications. The first session begins at 9 a.m., and the second begins at 10 a.m.

Attendees will have the chance to work out with the Jefferson County YMCA at 9:30 a.m. Instructor Kim Gibson will lead a basic exercise class you can do from a chair. She will be leading the class at the stage.

Also taking place at the stage, at 10:30 a.m., Thad Ortman from South County Senior Law and Estate Planning Center LLC will share estate planning tips.

The Leader will hold a grand-prize drawing, with one lucky winner’s name drawn at random from all eligible entries. One entry per person. The prize package will include four tickets for a Sept. 3 brunch cruise on the replica 19th century riverboat Becky Thatcher. Riverboats at the Gateway Arch are donating the prize. The winning tickets are not exchangeable for another date.

The two-hour Sunday Brunch cruise will begin boarding at 12:30 p.m., and the cruise sets sail at 1 p.m. and returns to the riverfront at 3 p.m.

The prize also includes car service to and from the riverboat cruise provided by E-Bus, a Eureka-based party bus company.

Signups for the drawing will be at the Leader Publications booth. The grand prize and other prizes will be announced at 11 a.m. Attendees must be present to win the prize.

Another drawing will be held for a prize package from the St. Louis Art Museum, including a one-year museum membership.

The J.B. Louis and the Legends band will close out the event, playing a mix of country and classic rock tunes.
