The Antonia Fire Protection District will hold its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at House 2, 6633 Moss Hollow Road, in Barnhart. The event is free to attend.

“We always look forward to this event,” Antonia Fire Assistant Chief Bobby Chrisco said. “Its purpose is to show everybody the safety infrastructure of our community, what we have to offer and what they invest in.”

Tours of the fire house will be given throughout the event, and Antonia Fire personnel will perform a vehicle extrication demonstration at 11:30 a.m.

Chrisco said a medical helicopter will land near the house during the event. He said the helicopter is expected to arrive at 9:45 a.m.

Those who attend will have opportunities to talk with firefighters as well as representatives from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Rock Township Ambulance District, Jefferson County 911 Dispatch, BackStoppers and others. People also will be able to tour a firetruck, ambulance and Sheriff’s Office cruiser.

Chrisco said representatives from Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital will provide free bicycle helmet fittings and give away free helmets.

He also said Hogz In Da Hood BBQ and Cosmic Donut food trucks will be at the event selling food items.

“We get to show off our station, equipment and people,” Chrisco said. “We are proud of everything and what we have to offer.”

Chrisco said past open houses have been attended by up to 200 people when the weather is good and up to 100 people when the weather is bad.

He said the best part about the open house for him is talking with the district’s residents.

“I like to answer questions,” he said. “There are things we take for granted that we just know, and we assume everybody knows. It is eye-opening some of the questions that we get. I like to talk about us.”
