Leader reporter Carrson McDaniel remembers his family’s dog, Bear, as a communicative pet. Bear, a Great Dane mix, died at age 10 in 2019.
“He was very talkative,” said McDaniel of St. Louis County. “He would groan a lot.”
He said his family adopted Bear as a puppy after his mother found him online.
“He had a brown eye and a blue eye,” McDaniel said. “He was a rescue. We had been looking for a new pet and my mom was scrolling on the website and he immediately caught her attention – his eyes, initially.”
Bear got along with the family’s other pet.
“We had a cat when we got Bear,” McDaniel said. “He would chase her around, playfully.”
McDaniel said Bear became an important member of the family.
“We loved him a lot,” he said.
