June Wilhelm said her 6-year-old Shih Tzu, Bailey, will cuddle only when she is so inclined. She is shown here in a 2016 photo taken in the family’s Eureka home.
“She has a highly independent personality,” Wilhelm said. “She likes to cuddle, but only on her terms. If I pick her up to pet her, she’ll hop right down. But, if she wants to cuddle, she will come sit right down and look up at me.”
Bailey likes to play with the Wilhelms’ other dog.
“She’s good friends with our golden retriever, Tess,” Wilhelm said. “They like to chase each other. Bailey will get under a chair where Tess can’t get her, and tease her.”
Wilhelm said she has a fondness for Shih Tzus.
“She’s my third of that breed,” she said. “Shih Tzus are just cute dogs, and they do not bark. They’re very affectionate.”
