Crystal City Mayor Tom Schilly said today (Oct. 13) that City Hall and Municipal Court offices are closed this week because a person with a connection to the facilities possibly had been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

Schilly would not say if it was an employee who may have been exposed.

“There’s no one (at the city buildings) who’s infected. The individual was in contact with people who (tested positive),” Schilly said.

To be safe, the city closed City Hall and the court offices.

“We have to protect the safety and welfare of our employees and citizens,” Schilly said.

All other municipal offices and services, like police and fire, are not affected by the closures, Schilly said.

“Public Works is open,” he said. “Trash pickup services are continuing. As far a water and sewer bills, we have a drop box that we’ve always had.”

The city posted a message about the office closures on its Facebook page.

A City Council meeting was held on Monday, but the public could not attend in person. However, they could watch the meeting live on YouTube, according to the Facebook message.

Municipal Court had been scheduled for Wednesday (Oct. 14), but those cases were rescheduled for Nov. 4, the city announced in the Facebook post.

Those affected by the postponed court dates were advised to contact their personal attorneys or the Municipal Court administrator starting Monday, Oct. 19.
