A recently announced partnership between two Jefferson County golf courses should make it easier for people to get tee times, according to representatives from both facilities.

Sorkis Webbe, owner of Sugar Creek Golf Course & Banquet Center, 5224 Country Club Drive, in High Ridge, and Roger Grobe, general manager of Oak Valley Golf Course & Resort, 1230 Abbey Lane, in Pevely, announced the partnership in January.

Tanqueer Hader owns Oak Valley, a 300-plus-acre facility formerly known as the Teamsters Health and Medical Camp.

Webbe said the agreement means he will oversee both golf courses, while Grobe will continue to manage the rest of the Oak Valley Resort features, which include a water park, a banquet hall, a restaurant, an RV park, a campground and a fishing lake.

“I have owned Sugar Creek Golf Course & Banquet Center for nine years,” Webbe said. “Roger and Tanqueer met with me and said why don’t we join hands and share (golf course operations)?

“I am now running both golf courses. Roger is continuing to operate all the other (amenities) at Oak Valley than the golf course. He is not involved with the Sugar Creek banquet center.”

Grobe agreed that links fans will benefit from the partnership.

“It should make for a better golfing experience for everybody,” he said.

Webbe noted that at times, either one of the courses could have no open tee times, so the partnership will allow players who contact one of the courses and find it booked to try to find a tee time at the other course.

“Sugar Creek is a busy golf course,” Webbe said. “We have an overabundance of tee time requests. We sometimes cannot accommodate all the players. At those times, we can now offer them tee times at Oak Valley. It works vice versa. If Oak Valley is booked, they can check to see if Sugar Creek has open tee times.”

Webbe said the partnership officially began Jan. 1, but the winter weather was so nasty last month there weren’t a lot of people playing.

The new partnership between the two golf courses will also allow people to purchase dual memberships for the Sugar Creek and Oak Valley golf courses. Those memberships will allow the buyer to use all the other Oak Valley amenities, he said.

Webbe said he has made great improvements to Sugar Creek Golf Course since he obtained it and plans to do similar work at the Oak Valley golf course.

Grobe said he is impressed with the Sugar Creek course and is interested to see what Webbe will do with the course at Oak Valley.

“We’ve seen the good things they’re doing at Sugar Creek, the groundskeeping,” Grobe said. “He’s bringing his grounds crew to Oak Valley. We’re looking forward to a good year here with him and his team.”
