When Sarah Beerntsen put a post on social media to see if anyone would be interested in yoga classes in De Soto, she received 200 responses.
Beerntsen, a Wisconsin native who is a full-time home-health physical therapist, moved from St. Louis to the De Soto area three years ago and soon noticed the town was lacking a yoga studio.
She said she started out by holding pop-up classes in February at Studio 13 on East Main Street. They quickly outgrew the venue.
In June, she opened Rooted Wellness & Yoga at 406 N. Main St., next door to Bordeau Dance Studio. It’s described as a community-centered studio that offers yoga, strength and functional movement to support balance, confidence and lifelong wellness for all levels.
Beerntsen and four other instructors lead the classes. The studio, split into two small rooms, offers yoga, Pilates and personal training in the mornings and the evenings.
For information about memberships, packages and class schedules, visit rootedwellnessandyoga.com or Rooted Wellness & Yoga on Facebook. She said the schedule is posted every week and stays pretty consistent.
Beerntsen hopes to outgrow the space, but she wants to stay on Main Street. She also hopes to expand the studio’s wellness options.
She said the most popular classes are Pilates and yoga sculpt, which combines yoga with small weights and bands.
The studio recently introduced hot yoga (in a room heated to 90 degrees) and chair yoga (to restore mobility in senior citizens).
In addition to classes, the studio offers occasional yoga and wine events at The Terrace at French Village, 6188 Hwy. Y in French Village.
The next one will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, and will include a 50-minute all-level yoga class and a complimentary glass of wine or beer afterward. The cost is $20.
